  1. Same question: Where's the Air Defense/Combat Air Patrol component?

All I see here is a large amount of targets (in the picture above).

    I mean, let's face it, F-35 can't dogfight.

    1. more to worry about than just that. logistics. they seem to act as if CLT's are mini-MEU's but they have only a supply NCO to balance the needs of the company? even Special Forces A-Teams use that only as a conduit to higher headquarters and he's only looking after a few guys.

also missing is the medical support.

the problem is simple. once you flesh this thing out it zooms back up to MEU sized personnel.

this can't work as currently designed by power point. we haven't even started talking about how these formations will handle near peer opposition, but even in Africa you have rebels with tanks, technicals and other means of transportation besides feet. ground mobility will be an issue.

    2. Isn't defending those targets the job of squadrons, USN and USMC, in the carrier? The responsibility relies outside the ARG. I would be more concerned about the lack of a frigate to provide NGS close in and as a base to deal with FAC and missile nests ashore.

As a Brit I look at the MEU and think it is spot on. It is the thing we should be doing. And not worrying about tanks on Salisbury Plain. I can't believe the senior leadership within the USMC (and Department of Navy) can't see it and just want to wreck what you have to just re-do it all again. Why? Madness. I am beginning to wonder how many of today's senior USMC personnel dodged going to sea.
